Description Michael 2005-07-31 16:48:05 UTC
Version: 0.7.3 (using KDE KDE 3.4.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

Please include the possibility to make protected albums. So that you only can open it with the right password.

As the albums are normal filesystem folders I think this is not possible with digikam.
Comment 2 Joern Ahrens 2005-07-31 19:33:58 UTC
As Dominik already mentioned, digikam is based on the file system. Album are actually folders on your disk. If we protect the albums by passwords, we have to encrypt the folders and images too. Because who cares, if digikam protects your albums, but the "intruder" only has to use konqi to show the images?

So you have to set the rights in your filesystem carefully.

well, in terms of usability I don't think telling users to fix their file permissions is any good.

Instead, a wizard could allow making album password protected and in the proccess delete original images from filesystem and put them in an encrypted file.

At least there should be an option to show an warning to open an album. It is possible that some pictures are not meant to be shown to others and it can be prevented to show them accidentally.
