Description Fatih Alabas 2005-06-19 16:31:53 UTC
Version: 1.4 rc1 (using KDE 3.4.1 Level "a" , SUSE 9.3 UNSUPPORTED)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11.4-21.7-default

Never receive page preview and print out from my KWord documents. I have already installed 6 more different word processor from originally compiled from Suse Linux and they can all make the print process properly.

However, KWord gives an error to standard out put as "error while filter description for true, empty command line received."

Thank you.

Very strange, there is no such error message in KWord, nor kdeprint, nor Qt.
Do other KDE apps print properly? E.g. kedit or kwrite or kate.
Do other KOffice apps print properly? E.g. kspread or kpresenter.
Any special settings in the properties dialog of the printer?
Is your printing system CUPS?
Comment 2 Fatih Alabas 2005-06-20 22:56:22 UTC
Neither all KDE nor all Koffice applications can print !!! However KDE
printing manager can print test page properly !? I am using CUPS and all
settings are default by YaST. On the other hand OpenOffice, Gnome and
non-KDE apps are all printing properly.

There's probably a problem with either the file ~/.lpoptions or /etc/cups/lpoptions. Try to remove it/them and restart kword.

Michael.

I removed them, but it is no use :-(

If possible, can you look on your system for a file containing the string _kde-filters:

find / -type f | xargs grep _kde-filters

Something is screwing up kdepritn configuration, usually it's ~/.lpoptions and/or /etc/cups/lpoptions files.

Michael.
Comment 6 Fatih Alabas 2005-06-26 00:04:00 UTC
I can not find _kde-filters string. I deleted both lpoptions files but the problem doesn't resolve.
Comment 7 Fatih Alabas 2005-07-29 21:47:04 UTC
I have just corrected my problem with kdeprint. From the Printing Manager, I have chosen the Configure Manager Menu and for Preview option, I have selected KGhostView as external preview program. Now, either print preview or print operation for all related KDE applications are working fine. And I do not have previous error message anymore.

I guess, there is a problem of KDE that built-in preview system is not working properly.

Fatih

UNCONFIRMED (batch reassigning messed this)
Comment 9 Cristian Tibirna 2005-09-27 07:48:34 UTC
I guess you experienced a severe misconfiguration of your system.

If you still have the same Linux installation, please go to the control center, in the KDE Components section, choose "File Associations", and in the field "find filename pattern" type "ps" then unroll the "application" tree that becomes visible and click on "postscript". What applications are listed in "Application Preference Order"?
Comment 10 Fatih Alabas 2005-09-27 09:25:50 UTC
The list is;

KGhostview
Karbon14
GV
GhostView
PostScript Viewer
Document Viewer
