Description Dik Takken 2005-06-12 23:11:29 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

Using OpenGL for rendering presentations will allow KPresenter to implement transition effects that are currently too slow or even unavailable, like crossfade.

New effects, like slowly animating light sources illuminating a slide will also be possible.

Some of the effects of the OpenGL slideshow plugin for DigiKam would be really cool to have for a presentation app.

CCing Zagge for all current KPresenter bugs

I agree. I suggest the developers have a look at the OpenGL python script KeyJnote over at http://keyjnote.sourceforge.net/ , which takes pdf files and has very nice and simple transition effects. It also features a presentation overview and slide zoom, all of which are very smooth. In addition, I would very much appreciate smooth drop shadows behind text or diffuse outline around text, which could possibly be done with OpenGL. As it is now, any semi-computer literate n00b can make a much better looking presentation in Apple's Keynote in no time than any professional can with any Linux Office presentation tool... Perhaps for KOffice 2.0?

Problem is of course that the effects also need to work (but maybe using less quality/eyecandy) when there is no OpenGL available.

I second this. I absolutely love Apple's keynote and it's all I use now for presentations. I would love to move back to Koffice for presentations but I need all those nifty eyecandy features. I've found that smooth transition effects from slide to slide or from bullet to bullet, etc. give the presentation more life and keep people more interested. I've played with KeyJnote and it's really great. But it doesn't have the effects like object zooming. So please integrate KeyJnote or something similiar for the KDE4 release of Koffice.
