Any time an appointment (linking to something on the calendar) is clicked, Kontact terminates with signal 11.

Whatever causes this (reentrancy problem) also causes #102470. I wonder why it would still happen, because I just got rid of all processEvents() in Kontact and there are no relevant ones in KOrganizer or KAddressbook. Can you please retest with th 3.4 branch or trunk?
