Description Peter 2005-05-16 04:11:52 UTC
Version: unknown (using KDE 3.3.2, Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.3 (Mandrakelinux 10.2 3.4.3-7mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11-6mdk

Because I have months of work in GnuCash, the inability to import is a grave showstopper for me!

Problems are repeatable; create new kmymoney file, save changes, then go menu File >> Import >> GnuCash:

1. When prompted for the location of a GnuCash file, I point it to the directory of my G/Cash files (ver 1.8.1.1, its made up of numerous *.xac files).

2. Get error message: the file has been changed, save it? [yes][No][Cancel]. If I hit [Yes] the result is -- see 3.

3. get Error message:
/home/peter/local/gnuCash is not a KMyMoney file [Ok]. After I hit Ok, the File >> Import menu option is grayed out/disabled and I cant try again, unless I restart kmymoney2

4. My GnuCash file is named Banking (no file name extensions). This wont list in the Import dialog (because it has no extension?), so I have to type it myself -- the result is an almost immediate error message -- see 3 above

Thanks for your report, and I see that there are some problems still associated with the use of the Import function, and with file suffixes. For the time being, however, you should be able to import your data by directly reading the file. Since you don't have a suffix on your file name, try entering the command 'kmymoney <your file path>'. This will lose any personal data set up in File/New, but you can add this later from the File menu. You will also lose template data, but the categories you need will be imported from the gnucash file.

I've raised an issue on the kmymoney bug list on sourceforge, and will consider it a Class A issue to get fixed before the 0.8 release.
