Description Douglas Robertson 2005-05-11 02:37:25 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources

To make Konqueror that much more flexible, it would be nice if there was a configuration option to turn password saving on/off (similar to Mozilla). Turning off KWallet is not an option as I use KWallet within certain apps, but have no desire to use password saving witin Konqueror. And although I could simply click "Never for this site" or "No" when asked, I do not want Konqueror asking me if I want to save a password everytime I visit a new site with a login of sorts.

not only do i know the reporter personally ;) but i have a partial (everything but the GUI) patch kicking around for this. so i'm assigning it to me so i don't forget about it (like i have from time to time)

Yes, I have the same problem. It is so embarassing.
I am using Kubuntu Edgy with KDE 3.5.4.
I would be happy if Konqueror could parse wildcards in ~/.kde/share/apps/khtml/formcompletions .
It would look like:
[NonPasswordStorableSites]
Sites=*

But anyway Konqueror should have a GUI for managing this list like Firefox.

Another wish for Konqueror password managing - the only reason why I can't use it - is to save passwords for domain instead of the exact URL. Saving passwords for URL doesn't help in most cases because many password sites have temporary generated session ids or something like that in URL so the password couldn't be inserted through Konqueror. (e.g. shops, forums and so on)
But I think I should made a separate wishreport for it.

Would love to have this fixed too! The password store dialog box feels like an unexpected <BITCHSLAP> every time - the Number One Soviet Technology in Konqueror. I have switched to Opera because of this but now Opera stopped working on my system for some reason and I am back with Konq so this is again urgent for me.

I've been suffering with this bug ever since enabling kwallet so I could manage my kopete passwords. I posted about it on the kfm-devel list recently before I saw this bug but got no response. I also came across your original proposed patch, Aaron.

It's been three years and five minor versions since this was first brought up and we're still lagging behind firefox in this small way. Is Aaron still on this? Does this bug need to be reassigned?

Oh, and exactly how many "me too" comments does it take for a bug to be no longer considered "unconfirmed"?

Actually this is sort-of fixed in kmail 1.11.1 (perhaps earlier). The dialog pages where you configure server details for connections now contain a "Store <protocol> password" checkbox, where <protocol> is either POP3 or SMTP depending on which one you are configuring. Uncheck these checkboxes for an account, and KMail won't invoke KWallet for that account.

This bug is about the behavior of Konqueror when logging in to a site using a web form.

Sorry, I didn't check your name and thought you were a newcomer to this thread when I saw a claim about this bug being fixed.

I suck at using bugtrackers.

No, I do, and you were right. This bug is really about KWallet prompt in Konqueror, nothing to do with KMail. I was also involved in a feature request to enable disabling KWallet in KMail, and later when I reviewed my requests I opened them all in separate tabs and then typed comment #6 in the wrong tab (or so I guess).

in Konqueror 4.3.1 these annoying pink bar is still there despite kwalletd here is deactivated.

"Every Feature is a bug, unless it can be disabled."

So, for me it is not a wish but a bug.
Comment 11 Thomas Haenig 2010-01-12 15:54:57 UTC
oops, I thought it was deactivated, because the 'password module' has been shown 'not running' in Service Manager ...

Now it is really deactivated and the pink bar seems to be gone.

Sorry for the overhasty post.

Nevertheless I would name it a bug. ;-)
