Version: 1.8 (using KDE 3.4.0 Level "a" , unofficial build of SUSE ) Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 (SuSE Linux) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.5-7.151-default Hi, the documentation of kmail reads this about the location of e-maildirectories: #. Tag: para #: faq.docbook:106 #, no-c-format [..] and your mail is saved in <filename class=\"directory\">~/Mail</filename>. [..] Allthough this is true for a vanilla kmail installation, some distributions use their own location, like ~/.mail on mandrake, or ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail on suse (9.3) This leadst to confusion amongst kmail users on those distro's, because they can't find ~/Mail to backup their e-mails. IMHO the FAQ should inform the users about this :) Rinse
The new default is ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail: if kmail can't find a ~/Mail, it won't create it anymore. As for distros that move the directory around, they should fix the documentation as well, shouldn't they?

Ok, so the documentation should adept this new location > > As for distros that move the directory around, they should fix the > documentation as well, shouldn't they? Indeed, but since they don't, and users most of the time blame the application in stead of the software vendor, I think it is a good idea to point out to the user that in some occasions, it is possible that the distribution they are using uses another maildirectory then the default of kmail. Fixed in the current development version
