Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0) Installed from: RedHat RPMs The way information is presented in the Kontact summary view is far behin the applications potential. For example: Appointmens: If Kontacts show appointments for more then one day things get messy and it's hard to keep track of what's going on. I would propose thinking about the following: 1. Clear structure Today 11th April 08:00-10:00 First Meeting 10:30-11:00 Meet the boss! 14:00-15:00 Second Meeting 16:30-17:00 Very Important Thing Tuesday 12th April 10:00-11:00 First Meeting 13:00-13:30 Second Apointment Wednesday <My idea should be clear now> 2. Using colors from the Categories might help Just an idea but color coding things will also help to keep things organized 3. Icons Icons are a very great tool to keep things easy and clear Other ideas unrelated to apointments: Integrate with Kopete: How about showing contacts being online Make it possible to present stuff that matters :-) - Todays lunch in the cafeteria More integration: Like being able to see missed phone calls there - that is not trivial of course. Thanks for you good work! Thorsten
Maybe the pi-sync version of the what's next screen might be a solution: http://www.linuxdevices.com/files/misc/kopi_wnview.png
I also consider this a very important issue. Are there any efforts on this?
I think there are some good ideas in this bug report and I plan on implementing something very much like what ko/pi has done. Unfortunately, I doubt there will be time before KDE 3.5 is released. So I will re-assign this to myself and hopefully will have something much better in KDE 4.0.
I agree that the pi-sync screen is very well layed out and informative. I especially like the fact that both "two days from now" and "Saturday 15 January" are shown. This way, one knows the exact date, and the relative date, of an event. I hope to see this implemented in the Kontact Summary view as well.
Something similar is being developed for KDE 4.1. We call it the "planner summary". It currently exists in trunk. The main developer of this feature hasn't had any time to work on it, unfortunately.
adding Mike the screenshot in comment #1 has some ideas that we might want to use in the planner summary.
Starting with KOrganizer 4.2 we have a new Summary called "Planner". Please use Planner to satisfy this wish. Bugs/Wishes for Planner should be assigned to the planner summary component of the kontact product.
