Description Krzysztof Lichota 2005-04-08 01:27:24 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

In "Help" menu in each application there is a "<application> handbook" entry.

As most teams do not have enough resources to translate all docs, it would be useful if this entry could show translation status, for example:
"Ark handbook (in Polish)" if the doc is translated
"Ark handbook" if the doc is not translated

English documentation might be deterring for unexperienced users speaking only native language, so such message showing that documentation is in native language would encourage them to use it.

So, is possible at all or not?
Comment 2 Marek Laane 2007-04-13 23:56:49 UTC
I saw SVN commit 647712 (Implementation of switching language for individual applications). Is it a step toward solving this bug, too?
Comment 3 Krzysztof Lichota 2007-04-15 19:08:25 UTC
Switching application language is something different - and my commit was reverted, because maintainers wanted the feature to be first ported to KDE4, for which I don't have time.

I could investigate implementing this feature also (shouldn't be too hard), but it does not make sense, as it also would have to be ported to KDE4 first.
Comment 4 Marek Laane 2007-04-17 00:18:50 UTC
Well, does that mean that requested option will be available at least in KDE4? (hopefully... :-) )
Comment 5 Krzysztof Lichota 2007-04-17 00:36:39 UTC
No, it means it could be available in 3.5 but it won't, since it would have to be implemented in both 3.5 and 4 and I don't have time for that.
Comment 6 Marek Laane 2007-04-18 00:08:50 UTC
well, then maybe someone else could implement your efforts in KDE4 when you've working implementations for KDE3? Or is it too much to hope for such collaboration?...
Comment 7 Krzysztof Lichota 2007-04-18 09:46:36 UTC
Given the fact that I got no reply for porting switching application language to KDE 4 (and it will not be present in KDE 3.5.7), I do not see the big chance. If you can find someone, I will find time to implement this feature as I am also interested in it.
Comment 8 Marek Laane 2007-05-02 01:51:57 UTC
I'm sure you asked for help at kde-devel or kde-core-devel - and nobody offered you help for porting your code to KDE4? That's sad...
Comment 9 Krzysztof Lichota 2007-05-02 14:18:11 UTC
Yes, I have asked twice.
Comment 10 Marek Laane 2007-05-29 00:56:59 UTC
It seems one of your undertakings has been ported to KDE4 now (SVN commit 667087 by djarvie:
Implement facility to switch language for individual programs.
Ported to KDE 4 from Krzysztof Lichota's original KDE 3 code.), maybe it encourages you to continue your effort to solve this bug, too? :-)
Comment 11 Krzysztof Lichota 2007-05-29 07:45:17 UTC
Yes, I will try to implement this feature too :)
Comment 12 Krzysztof Lichota 2007-06-05 12:44:26 UTC
I will try to implement this feature, but it will not go in into main KDE - 3.5 branch has been completely frozen. I will try to provide a patch for those interested, though.
Comment 13 Marek Laane 2007-06-28 00:51:53 UTC
Well, it doesn't need to go KDE3, it may very well be nice addition to the KDE4...
Comment 14 Marek Laane 2007-08-30 00:43:24 UTC
Just for interest - how far have you proceed? Can we see something like that in KDE4?

I did not have time to touch it yet. And for sure it won't make it into
KDE 4.0.0 in time.
Comment 16 Marek Laane 2007-09-02 00:07:30 UTC
I see... Let's then hope you've some time in future 'cos it'd be very nice feature!
