Description Dominik Karall 2005-04-02 18:20:04 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

I enabled systray support in akregator over kontact interface, but when I start kontact, the systray does not appear. I have systray support for KMail enabled too and it is started correctly with the systray.

So I think that akregator even does not check the newsfeeds if I start akregator. I need to start akregator explicit in kontact to get the systray.

AFAIK Kontact developers wanted Akregator not to startup on Kontact startup because it takes more time to load it up. So I'm assigning this to Kontact devs.

I think it must be started with kontact, cause otherwise there would be no need to have an akregator kontact component, when I have to start it anyway.

I know that all other components aren't started too. But it makes no sense to have one app, which handles other apps, but does not start scheduled actions for that one (check mails, check feeds, check events). If I need to select every application in kontact to be started, kontact would just act as menu like. It lets me start apps through one interface without browsing through my kde-menu, that's the only feature of it.

Hi,

like Teemu Rytilahti already mentioned, we don't want to have other parts loaded on startup, because it would slowdown startup immediately.

Ciao,
Tobias

It's ok for me. But I think akregator in connection with kontact isn't useable with this bug like it should be.
But I think it's ok if this bug wouldn't be fixed, cause the (I don't know the bug number now) "only one tray icon for kontact" bug should have the right solution.

cheers,
dominik

Hello.

I find this bug very annoying for the simple reason: I want the software to push information I subscribe for. I want to setup Kontact, start it and just know there are new e-mails AND new RSS subscriptions for me to read.

About the startup time argument:
It is just stupid that I have to start Kontact in order to click on Akgregator icon to activate it anyway - it takes me actually MORE time, than waiting for Kontact to start more components. I WANT those components started.

I would like to ask you for reopen and propose a solution: provide a setting to activate Akgregator on Kontact start. Or generally provide setting "I want these components started on Kontact startup".

Thank you very much.
