Version: 0.10 (using KDE 3.4.0, compiled sources) Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.29 Hi, I have installed Slackware 10.1 and KDE 3.4 on 4 systems (some of which has on my friends home). We are on the same LAN (192.168.100.1 - 192.168.100.4) We can't find KDE based chat which works in our lan. It is very annoying to see that we have the best Linux and KDE and still can't chat with each other without using Yahoo, MSN or other server based chat. Kopete supports most Protocols which requires servers or internet connection. Please add support for Server-less clients like VyPress Chat. And KDE definitely needs KDE to KDE (LAN client) Chatting where there is no internet connection. I found that Vypress Chat is such software which allows local area network clients to chat with each other (in Windows). And in Linux too... Please visit: http://www.vypress.com/products/chat/ _______________________________________________ Vypress Chat is a user-friendly application for real-time chatting in small office or home office (SOHO) local networks. This unique chat software features an easy-to-understand format for text-based conferences and discussions. Vypress Chat does not require an Internet connection or a dedicated server to support discussions, and all users have equal access to the application’s tools and functions. Vypress Chat enables individuals to instantly communicate about joint projects, and managers can send instantaneous memos to individuals, departments, or the entire company. _________________________________________________ Linux Client: (QT based and GPL) http://freshmeat.net/projects/vyqchat/ VyQchat 0.2.7 is just amazing and 100% compatible chat client which allows 2 systems on a Network to communicate (chat and share files) easily without having a chat server. --------------------------------------- VyQChat is a real-time, text-based, serverless chat program dedicated to LANs. It is almost 100% compatible with Vypress Chat for Windows. It allows you to chat with friends on public or private channels, and send and receive messages etc. The GUI is user- friendly, and there is optional sound support. Developed and distributing under GNU license by Pawel Stolowski (yogin@linux.bydg.org) The source code of this clone also will be availably under GNU license. Please send us these codes back if you improve something in it. ------------------------------------------- Kopete is a wonderful application and KDE really deserves KDE to KDE workstation chat/file transfer capability. Kindly add the Vypress Chat protocol into kopete by using the VyQchat sources. Thank you.
As every whish in the "New plugin wishes" category, they are not going to be implemented soon until someone is going to write this plugin, and maintain it. Anyway, for your network, i can suggest a local Jabber server.
change the title to not be so demanding. :)
Hi, I have added the bonjour protocol to Kopete as of KDE 4.2. IF you want a LAN only Client, please consider switching to this protocol, especially as it is supported by a number of clients (Kopete, GAIM, iChat)
Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained. Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
