Description James 2005-03-29 10:45:16 UTC
Version: 0.10 using KDE 3.4 (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Slackware Packages
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5
OS: Linux

Using kopete since upgrading KDE to version 3.4 from the Slackware Packages. The instant messenger is consistantly crashing. I am using msn, jabber and ICQ. It will crash often when I close instant messenger windows, view any of the menus, recieve messages and just about any thing else that I do.

I have checked all the dependancies and couldnt find any missing. Ive also tried to compile from source with the same versions of software and I still get crashes so I am unsure if its specific to the Slackware Package tree.
Comment 1 James 2005-03-29 10:46:44 UTC
This backtrace appears to be useless.
This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents creating of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the crash.

Comment 2 James 2005-03-29 12:54:19 UTC
I have done further investigation. I have just installed a fresh Intel Pentium 4 based system with slackware-current and the latest KDE 3.4. Since doing that and setting up Kopete with the three accounts (ICQ, Jabber and MSN) I then start getting crashes when I close any chat/windows. This is slightly different to the behaviour I was experiencing on my other system which is a Centrino based laptop with identical libaries and configuration. On the laptop I get crashes just moving , loading chatting anything. However the traces look identical to my novice eye.
Comment 3 Thiago Macieira 2005-03-29 13:15:49 UTC
What libxml2 version are you using?
Comment 4 James 2005-03-29 14:30:06 UTC
Libxml2 : libxml2-2.6.18

Comment 5 Thiago Macieira 2005-03-29 15:07:27 UTC
There have been problems reported with that version.

Can you try downgrading and see if it solves your problems? 2.6.15 is working fine for me.
Comment 6 James 2005-03-29 15:19:11 UTC
The problems persist with version 2.6.9 and 2.6.13 2.6.15 and 2.6.16 of libxml2.

Comment 7 Olivier Goffart 2005-03-29 17:45:03 UTC
Note that i use libxml2 2.6.17 and libxslt 1.1.12 and i have no problems.

Comment 8 Shawn Sharpe 2005-03-29 22:38:28 UTC
I'm also having this problem with libxml2-2.6.18 and libxslt-1.1.13
Comment 9 Shawn Sharpe 2005-03-30 06:42:04 UTC
I downgraded to libxml2 2.6.16 and libxslt 1.1.12 and it took care of the problem.
