Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0) Installed from: Slackware Packages OS: Linux There is a keyboard shortcut conflict between KDE and Mozilla Firefox when typing Ctrl+Tab. In KDE, Ctrl+Tab walks through the desktop list while in Mozilla Firefox Ctrl+Tab walks through tabs. This makes it so that if Mozilla Firefox runs under KDE, it's impossible to walk through tabs using the keyboard. Proposed solution: Remove the following default settings from Control Center -> Regional & Accessibility -> Keyboard Shortcuts: Walk Through Desktop List Ctrl+Tab Walk Through Desktop List (Reverse) Ctrl+Shift+Tab and add the following default settings: Switch One Desktop to the Right Alt+Ctrl+Right Switch One Desktop to the Left Alt+Ctrl+Left Switch One Desktop to the Up Alt+Ctrl+Up Switch One Desktop to the Down Alt+Ctrl+Down I think these new defaults would be good because they're intuitive and are also used in GNOME. Thanks! Vlad
Why do you keep refining essentially the same laundry list in different places? And, BTW, KDE had Ctrl-Tab probably since 1.0. It's pretty much unlikely that we will ever change it
Probably WONTFIX. Can you file the same bug report to Firefox and have them change their shortcuts instead, since we won't change ours? Last I tried, Firefox walked through tabs with Ctrl+PgUp and Ctrl+PgDown as well.
Thanks for your prompt responses. I have filed the bug report with Firefox at: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=286892
The Mozilla Firefox team said that they had received many complaints when they tried to limit tab switching with only Ctrl+PageUp and Ctrl+PageDown. It looks like users will just have to figure out that Ctrl+Tab switches desktops in KDE, which might have the side-benefit of teaching people that they actually have multiple desktops :)
