Description disclosed 2005-03-18 07:20:29 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
OS: Linux

when presing the OK-button on error messages using the spacebar key on the keyboard, the OK-button does get pressed but does not depress.
hence i cannot close such messages easily.

clicking with mouse works.

works fine for me. Do you use some experimental patches?
Comment 2 disclosed 2005-03-18 14:51:00 UTC

i suggest reopen.
i will try to reinstall the kde rpms, which rpm (for FC3) does contain the button handling system, kde-libs?

Same problem here with KDE 3.4 CVS since 2 months or so... and I have the same problem with KDE 3.4 stable (using Fedora RPMs).
Comment 6 ddlucas_jp 2005-04-01 03:02:44 UTC
Same problem here with kde-3.4.0 and qt-3.3.4-r2 on Gentoo.
Comment 7 disclosed 2005-04-13 21:53:28 UTC
this bug does also make it impossible to click buttons in web pages in konqueror.
the button get stucked pressed and it seems impossible to use any other button (ENTER) to perform the click. it forces the user to use the mouse.
Comment 8 Frederick Alexander Thomssen 2005-05-11 12:38:16 UTC
do you use gcc4? after downgrading to gcc34, it works for me now..

The same problem appears with "KDE 3.4.0-6 Red Hat" under Fedora Core 4.
There are so many changes wih no apparent point that I though it might be some brain-in-a-jar configuration issue.
When the Space bar is pressed, the button is pushed in and *looks* as if it is the sort of button needs to be presssed again for it to pop out. Pressing Space again does nothing however and the button needs to be pressed with the mouse or the Return/Enter key needs to be pressed.
Comment 10 disclosed 2005-07-25 07:56:51 UTC
using kde 3.4.1 on fedora core 4 it seems to work as normal.
this bug might (in my opinion) be closed.
Comment 11 disclosed 2005-08-06 23:57:07 UTC
no problems in kde 3.4.2 on fedora core 4
-> close?
Comment 12 Frederick Alexander Thomssen 2005-08-07 09:19:44 UTC
Don't close it - the QT in Fedora Core 4 has been patched by Fedora Project to make button pressing with space bar work. So it won't work with another QT compiled by gcc4 if you don't have patched it. Found this out using QT from kde-redhat repository where the button still gets stuck.

Have a look at http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewcvs/devel/qt/ and especially (i guess) http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewcvs/devel/qt/qt-x11-free-3.3.4-imm-key.patch?rev=1.1&view=markup .

I experience nearly the same behavior, except that the enter key do "activate" the selected key.

When I tab between objects, and try to either press a button or set/remove a mark in a checkbox with the space key - the buttons looks pressed down, and the checkboxes gets greyed out. The mouse allways works.

I am using KDE 3.4.2 on Mandriva 2006.0
Comment 14 Dan 2005-11-14 16:26:30 UTC
I first encountered this problem with 3.4.1 (or maybe 3.4.0, can't remember exactly). When I upgraded to 3.4.2 it went away, but now that I've updated to 3.4.3 it's back.
Don't know whether it matters, but I've got the 3.4.2 RPMs from official Fedora updates and the 3.4.3 ones from the kde-redhat project.
Running on Fedora 4.

just to confirm yet one more time, kde 3.5 for FC4 has this problem aswell.
Comment 17 disclosed 2006-04-09 19:19:54 UTC
this bug is not present in FC5 with kde 3.5.1, however, before closing please see comment 12 above.
Comment 18 Frederick Alexander Thomssen 2006-04-09 19:31:29 UTC
Hm, I don't know if the Gentoo team has also patches QT (as the Fedora team did) - at last, Gentoo has no problems with a stuck button... And now I am also using GCC4, so...

But let's wait for others to comment on this matter before closing it!
Comment 19 Till Maas 2006-07-05 13:12:50 UTC
In FC5 with kde 3.5.3 release 0.2.fc5 I have this problem, too.
Comment 20 Till Maas 2006-07-05 16:01:49 UTC
In FC5 it seems to be fixed with the last qt update - 3.3.6 release 0.3.fc5
Comment 21 disclosed 2006-10-30 21:12:43 UTC
for me it looks like it is working, FC6, KDE 3.5.4.
however i cannot tell if this is a real fix or a patch from the fedora team.
Comment 22 FiNeX 2008-03-08 16:10:50 UTC
KDE 3.5.8 with unpatched Qt is working right now.
