Compiler:          gcc 3.2 
OS:                Linux

looks like bug 85691 fixed some shortcut keys to match kmail's, but the keys to
keys to mark all mail read in folder is 'ins', whereas a similar function - mark articles in feed read is 'ctrl + r'

hopefully this can be set to default to kmail's behavior too.

Umh, at least my KMail doesn't have any shortcut as default for mark all messages as read...

KMail doesn't have default shortcut for marking folder as read, so this bug report is invalid.
