Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.2) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages OS: Linux I would like to have an option for different sorting of files and folders. When I go through my folders e.g. to open a file that is in a subdirectory, I prefer to have the folders sorted by name and the files sorted by date (newest on top), because often I want to open a file that has been changed recently (and it is easy to find, if files are sorted by date), but it is hard to find the folder if they are sorted by date, because sorting of folders by time doesn't make much sense in this case. If I am using konqueror I don't really need this, because the folders in the sidebar are always sorted by name (even if the files and folders in the main window are sorted by date). However, if I open a file from within a KDE application or attach a file in kmail, I have the problem described above. The easiest way to implement this might be to sort the "separate folders" (Configure -> Separate Folders, F12) always by name (analogous to the konqueror sidebar).
I don't know if this could help the user or add extra complexity: having a list with two partial sorting looks quite confusing.
Anyway all reports about file management mode reported against KDE 3 (konqueror) are being closed: konqueror in KDE 3 is no more developed and mantained. All bugs and wishes which could be interesting for Dolphin in KDE 4 (the new KDE file manager) has been collected into a specific list. Please try the new file manager before request new features and report bugs. Before submitting new reports check carefully the already opened KDE/Dolphin reports in order not to add duplicates. Many thanks.
