Description Helge Deller 2005-03-05 13:59:49 UTC
Version: unknown (using KDE 3.4.0, compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (pre 3.3.5 20040809)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-24.11-default

KWin is broken with Xnest in regard to displayed windows.
How to reproduce:
a) Start X (e.g. start up your KDE under your account).
b) start up konsole
c) start "Xnest :1 -ac &" (background Xnest)
d) "su - anyuser" (switch to any other user)
e) enter as this user: "export DISPLAY=:1"
f) type "startkde" (KDE now starts in this Xnest window)
g) in the Xnest windows start e.g. konqueror and resize the konqueror window
to maximum size.
h) you'll see that the right part and the bottom-most part of all started
applications won't show up.
i) if you start any application in Xnest (e.g. from the kicker bar) the window
will not show up. You need to klick on it in kicker twice to redraw the window contents

This is a problem only with "kwin". Other window managers like e.g. fvwm2 work OK.

This bug exists in KDE_3_4_BRANCH, KDE CVS HEAD and in some products like e.g. SUSE Professional 9.2.

Works just fine here. (XFree86-Xnest-4.3.0.1-29)
Comment 3 Lubos Lunak 2005-03-08 13:52:15 UTC
I can reproduce it here, and I can reproduce it also with GNOME.
Comment 4 Nick Brown 2005-05-17 18:03:48 UTC
I'm seeing exactly the same bug with Mandrake 2005LE.
I'm using kdebase SVN:414941 and xorg-x11-Xnest-6.8.2-7.1.102mdk

Gnome seems to have the same problem. Enlightenment works just fine.

Is there a xorg bug to track this?
Comment 5 Lubos Lunak 2005-05-17 18:13:15 UTC
No, I'm not aware of any xorg bugreport about this.
