Picasa has a nice feature called "I'm feeling lucky" which improve the pictures, I think by using the histogram and changing its repartition ... as we can manually do 

It would be nice if digikam had this feature :-)

From Picasa manual :

Click the “I'm Feeling Lucky” button and Picasa will change your picture's colour and contrast to produce what it thinks is the ideal image. You will see a change only if your picture is not already colour balanced. Click the “Undo Enhance” button below to remove the change.

digiKam already provide more colors auto-correction tools than picasa using Fix/Colors/Auto-correction. Take a look at this url :
