Description S. Burmeister 2005-03-03 21:27:40 UTC
Version: 0.7.1 (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

If one copys a lot of images and has a lot of suplicate file-names, it is very annoying to have to press that rename button time after time.
Thus it would be very convenient to have a, "rename automatically" button.

I know that this is not a digikam bug in the way that it has to be implemented outside. Yet I think digikam would be one of the apps benefiting from it the most.

Use case for this feature: people who like to rename their files for capture date and time. If they often shoot series of pictures (e.g. sports photography), there is often more than one image per second. Renaming long series of images is very tedious with the current way of handling this. It would be nice to at least be able to turn this on optionally (maybe even have it configurable: *_1, *-1, *a,...).

We probably need some more flexibility in the CameraGui when renaming. I have sometimes the same use case as Benjamin: if there are 2 images in the same second, i have to rename them by hand (not really a big deal) and it blocks the download of the images (annoying).
I could of course add a sequence number but it is added to all pictures. Adding just a sequence number to pictures name that would be the same would be better. In that case, the sequence should start again from 0 or 1 for each group of pictures.

I'm also in favor of an advanced personalised renaming scheme : just a text field where we could put text and fields from exif, iptc, ... (like "photo_%d%h%m%s")
It was more or less possible in some digikam version, bu disapeared.

We definitely need the auto rename added for sequence of shots. Many cameras have continues shooting mode (not sure how many ppl know/use it) that can take more then one shot per second. And as of now it is really painful to babysit the import camera tool and keep clicking auto suggest name and then rename for each of the photos. Additionally as per bug 151275 that i have submitted the other day since the date/time of the picture is not taken from exif but from file modified time, it is very trivial to have lots of files that will have the same timestamp (batch update) and adding lots of 0000 as import tool has now for auto increment is not very pretty.

just tried 0.9.3 (compiled from source on gusty) and now the autorename doesn't work and all keeps on saying the file already exists and when autorename reached 15 it hit me that this might be a bug and sure it was there were not _XX.jpg created.

oops it is it is not autorename (wishful thinking) here is the edited text please feel free to remove #4

just tried 0.9.3 (compiled from source on gusty) and now the suggest new name doesn't work and all keeps on saying the file already exists and when suggest new name reached 15 and still complained that file exists it hit me that this might be a bug and sure it was there were no _XX.jpg created. So if you can add the requested feature while fixed this bug, it will really save me a lot time doing the monkey work (1.suggest new name 2.Rename 3.goto 1)

Bump

any luck on seeing it in 0.10.0 release?

There is also Ubuntu wish for similar functionality:

What about reassigning this to the kdelib which provides this dialog?
Comment 9 Andi Clemens 2010-11-14 23:46:45 UTC
Yes, I really think we should re-assign this...
Comment 10 caulier.gilles 2010-11-15 14:25:43 UTC
I reassigned this entry to KDEcore. KDE team, please adjust to right component.
