Version: 3.3.1 (using KDE 3.3.1, compiled sources) Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.28 I opened Konqueor to browse some favourite sites and was greet with the default start page. I dont know if I am looking at Konqueor_as_file manager or Konqueror_as_web_browser or whatever incarnation it keeps re-inventing itself as. To be safe I go to the Menu bar and select: Settings >> Load View Profile >> and then a confusing six (6) choices! The choices are very unfriendly; whats the difference between 'Simple Browser' and 'Web Browser'? I get 'Tabbed Browser' only because I have used Mozilla/Firefox. What does 'Midnight Commander' or 'KDE Development' mean to the un-initiated?! With no hint or clue I am forced to bumble and waste my time clicking on these in turn to discover what these browser choices mean (I wisely stayed away from the first three). Finally it dawns on me; these are supposed to be convenient groups of related bookmarks for KDE afficionados, not your 'normal' user and not as the menu label suggests, a way to find the web browser part of Konqueror. Thats crock!
Sounds like a documentation request.
I think you missed the point -- its a design/UI flaw to have 6 ambiguous choices. It seems to me a better design helps everyone by speeding the user on his way and not bogging the developer down in documentation. Thanks, Peter
I don't count 6 ambiguous choices. But I do think Tabbed browsing, Simple Web Browser and webbrowsing are overlapping. Maybe the latter is caused by a bug, since there's also "filemanagement", that is the profile's filename. I think they shouldn't show. The other ones aren't ambiguous and clearly have their purposes.
To get back to the topic of the bug, what *is* the difference of the simple browser and web browsing views? Back when the simple browser made it's debut in 3.3 it was simpler version of the web browsing view in that it was a) resized to be smaller and b) had less toolbar icons and c) did not display the google searchbar. I think adding the searchbar to the simple view was a good idea but now with the 3.4 release absolutely nothing else is changed. All the simple browser is now, is a resized version of the web browsing profile. If that's going to be the only difference then one of the two should be removed. oh and i'm also changing this to a bug (instead of a wish)

OK i think i've found a part of the problem here. If konqueror is opened normally (using an icon or from the command line) and then the profile is changed using the Settings -> Load View Profile -> Simple Browser menu option, all that will happen is that konqueror window gets resized to the Simple Broswer window size. If Konqueror is opened via the Simple Browser option in the Konqueror profiles (accessible from kicker) then the expected Simple Browser view is obtained.
