Version:           2.4 (using KDE 3.4.0, compiled sources)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.10

Up until 3.3.2 Kate did not flash/move/resize like this when restore window configuration was set.
I would file this under 'cosmetic', nothing is broken, it's just visually disturbing when opening Kate.

true, completly fixed only in kde 3.5, too bad, kde 3.4 still behaves that unnice ;)
