Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0) Installed from: SuSE RPMs OS: Linux If you have a look at the sidebar in konqueror, you will notice a grey space that is never used. At least I could not find anything that used it.
Mhm, could you mark it in a screenshot?
Created attachment 9868 [details] screenshot of the unused space The area marked is hardly used, if at all, I could not find anything displaying text in it.
Doesn't happen here. But why?
> Doesn't happen here. But why? Do not know, yet there were several people in #kde who could confirm this, so I am not the only one. Maybe different window styles? I use lipstick with plastik.
Switching to Plastik as style, one gets a frame in that area, it does not look as useless as before, yet still uses space without any obvious functionality.
How to reproduce (on KDE 3.4.2, but I guess the problem is still there in 3.5 svn as of August 5 2005): We'll use the "File Management" profile... Make sure the "File Management" profile is configured to NOT show the sidebar when you open konqy. Open konqy (with no sidebar) and press F9. The sidebar will show up using all the space. Now, save the profile with the sidebar OPENED. Close konqy. Open it again... The sidebar will show up and there will be the famous useless space at the bottom. In some styles (eg. plastik), you will also get the "status bar frame". With others (eg. lipstik) you will only get the useless space (because it is coded to hide the status bar frames). I dont know what the problem might be... After testing, it does not make any difference if you use konqy preloading or not...
After some "code understanding time" i guess it is because the status bar is created but hidden. The problem seems to be that qt will leave the space there for the status bar to reappear eventually (which never happens actually). But really, my best guess would be that the status bar is created in konqy's preloading routine. There was a fix this summer i think for this, but the "fixer" must have forgotten about konqy preloading.
Created attachment 15781 [details] Yet another screenshot I also vote for this. I had entered such request at kde-apps.org (http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=38393) According to the comments, If you load the Konqueror with visible sidebar, pressing F9 twice (hiding and then again showing), the useless space is gone. But it is annoying to do that everytime you open konqueror :P So to reproduce this bug, one must open the konqueror with side bar visible.

I still can reproduce this bug in konqueror 4 svn trunk r825224.
