Description warcomp 2005-02-26 17:46:37 UTC
Version: Unbekannt (using KDE 3.4.0, compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.4 20050223 (prerelease)
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.11-rc4-test64

after entering the device-name of the cdrom that contains
the music-disc, the program gets terribly slow, doing something
on the cd...(it feels as kaudioripper is in an infinite loop, but
always after a long time it reacts to mouse-clicks etc...)
(actually i don't know if ripping works, because i never wanted to
wait for soooo long)

This happens on my TEAC 516 DVD-ROM as well as on my LG 4160 DVD-RW drive.
Both work in plain ATA-Mode on Abit AV8 Mainboard with VIA K8T800Pro
chipset.
I tested it with kernel 2.6.10, 2.6.11-rc4 and 2.6.11-rc5

and a little usability thing, why is in kaudiocreator no possibility
to select the wanted bitrate of the mp3,ogg etc. ?
why do I have to go into the controlcenter (and have to hope that
it uses the values from there) ?
and why is kaudiocreator reacting directly to the typed devicename ?
if there is a problem like in my case, it looks like the program crashed...
why no "load"-button or something like that ?

Part 1 is a dup (which is what I'll mark this as) of a know issue with some drives (none that I own) that is being worked on.

and a little usability thing, why is in kaudiocreator no possibility
to select the wanted bitrate of the mp3,ogg etc. ?
No gui selection, yes this will change for kde 3.5 or 4 whichever is next. I simply couldn't change it due to the freeze.

why do I have to go into the controlcenter (and have to hope that
it uses the values from there) ?

Those aren't actually used. Those are used by audiocd (again, changing/fixing in the near future). You go to the encoder configuration and use the command line options for the encoder you wish to use.

and why is kaudiocreator reacting directly to the typed devicename ?
if there is a problem like in my case, it looks like the program crashed...
why no "load"-button or something like that ?

I am not quite sure what you mean by this. Can you try restating this one?

because of the cdrom/dvdrom-problem...if you tell me how to look for what
kaudiocreator is doing (because in the console, there is only a message
telling me what kind of cdrom it is) exactly, i could give you more
information...

ok on the page that is visible at first (i have a german-version but in
english it should be called "CD-titles" or something like that)
there is this "device"-selectbox, in which it's also possible to write in,
for example ob the first start in this selectbox there was no "/dev/hdc"
so I wrote "/dev/hd.." and immediatly after pressing "c" kaudiocreator
acesses the cd....i hope it's clearer now, but my english... ;-)
