Description Attila 2005-02-23 21:49:54 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.2)
Installed from: Slackware Packages
OS: Linux

I have an on-board soudcard: MPU-nVidia, on Nvidia A7N8X mainboard.
I freshly installed Linux Slackware 10.1 with KDE 3.3.2 on my system, and
my sound-card needed a driver to work.
I've installed the latest sound-driver from www.nvidia.com.
When I start X I recieve an error saying, that no sound device was found, but
according to nvidia documentation for this error I'll have to set the sound hardware [Control Center - Sound System - Hardware] to OSS and everything will be OK. When I click apply I recieve the Knotify error:
Knotify crashed and caused signal 11 (SIGSEGV).
Sometimes the sound works, sometimes [after reboot] doesn't.

The really "pissing off" thing about this is that under Linux - Slackware 10.0
With KDE 3.2, with the same soundcard, mainboard ... everything worked.
And with a brand new [installed today] Slack 10.1 -KDE 3.3.2 doesn't.

'ELP !

Comment 1 Attila 2005-02-25 09:49:32 UTC
Hi! It's me again!
Since my last report, I recompiled my kernel [2.4.29] with nVidia onboard sound suport and i810 sound support enabled.

With all that done, my soundcard works with i810 but in Control Center - Sound... - Hardware at all the hardware options Knotify makes the same error...

My problem is kind of resolved, 'cause sound works, but not with the official nVidia driver, SO I LEAVE THIS BUG_REPORT UNRESOLVED.
