Version: 3.1.1 (using KDE KDE 3.1.2)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs

Make it possible to assign a duration to a to-do task, like: Write a report - will take 3 hours. This is more convenient than putting in start and end time (end time could be calculated automatically if start time is given).

Also the duration for all the tasks should be summed up in one of the views. That makes it easier to estimate one's workload, like:

Todays tasks:
Write report 3:00
prepare meeting 1:30
think of excuses for boss 4:00

Total: 8:30 - indicating that you planned too many things for today

The wish about the duration is already reported for bug 65814, so I remove that part from this wish. The only issue here is now that the total duration should be displayed somewhere.

Cheers,
Reinhold

PS: When reporting two or more separate issues, please use one bug report for each of them, instead of stuffing everything into only one report. Makes life much easier for us.

This could be implemented as a plugin. Doesn't seem to be too difficult.
Comment 3 Chris Humphries 2006-04-04 16:23:02 UTC
This is to be displayed in the "What's Next?" summary screen for the day? To display total time spent on activities, maybe under the tasks for the day with start/stop times listed?

Reassigning all KOrganizer bug reports and wishes to the newly created
korganizer-devel mailing list.

Is anyone still wanting this functionality? I'm thinking of making a patch for the 3.5 sources.

Is this still being worked on? Would be useful for estimating work load.

It might also be useful (& neat) if the organiser could take account of the set work hours and schedules meetings etc. to calculate in advance whether the workload is over-stretched: If you have 5 tasks each taking ~10hours each and only 30hours free before the deadline of all of them you've got too much work etc. Or at least need to work a bit quicker.

Answering Nick after a bit more than 5 years ; Yes, this can still be useful !
