Bug 54039

Summary: panel stalls randomly. Quiting galeoning restores the panel to normal operation
Product: [Plasma] kicker Reporter: Nicholas Lee <nic-kde>
Component: generalAssignee: John Firebaugh <jfirebaugh>
Status: RESOLVED DUPLICATE
Severity: normal CC: ivo
Priority: NOR
Version: unspecified
Target Milestone: ---
Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Latest Commit: Version Fixed In:

Description Nicholas Lee 2003-02-03 23:34:31 UTC
Version: Qt: 3.1.1, KDE: 3.1.0, KDE Panel: 1.1 (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

After frequeny random periods, the panel/kicker will stall. On non-hidden panels, icon-raising slows down, and the mouse needs to hover over an icon for several tens of seconds before an application can be started from the panel.

Hidden panels unhide VERY slowly.:- pixels a second.

Desktop icons don't seem to be affected.

Quiting completely galeon instantly restores kicker to full operation. After restarting galeon, the bug will re-occur after some period.

System load, vmstats seem normal during stall-period. Window switching via keyboard shortcuts is fine.

PS: Don't say konqueror is the best fix. ;) Its not sufficient for me needs at present.

ktown stable version of KDE install over Debian testing/unstable.

Another information. When using galeon with two seperate windows and the panel
freezes, quiting one of the windows unfreezes kicker.

Problem with the task list widget?

Does this seem related to bug #49485?

Does disabling klipper completely fix the problem?

At least for me, it does.

Strangely, I couldn't get the panel to repeat the problem. Investigating
further.

Comment 7 Ivo S 2003-03-06 12:45:59 UTC
I tested this problem with RedHat Phoebe Public Beta 8.0.94 and did not get this issue when I
enabled the klipper without restart of KDE, but as soon as I restarted the KDE, I got it. My test
procedures are at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49485 .

I've had klipper disabled for a while now and this problem hasn't reappeared.

Sounds like a duplicate of bug #49485 then.
