I second this suggestion. I switched to kde running on Openbsd a couple of months ago and I'm *extremely* happy with my new desktop. It has occured to me that Konsole would benefit from the screen management(split window vertically/horizontally and kill active window) functions from Konqueror (which I have found very useful) that put multiple browser screens in a single window. The addition of this feature to Konsole would make possible manipulating as a group functionally related Konsole windows where a program (such as calc) runs in one window and related things (editing, viewing help files, etc) are done in the other window(s) with switching between windows being done via mouse or (preferably) keyboard. *** Bug 60984 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I also second this suggestion... I just thought of it myself: it would be neat to be able to split two (or perhaps more) sub-shells next to eachother... or below eachother. In this case I would like to have my centericq and irssi on one screen, so I can check and respond to both of them at the same time. It's nice to have the 'activity alarm' for it, but having it on one screen would be even nicer :) you just suggest the same as me. I'd really like to see this. Something like in vim, where you can split the panes and resize them all using the keyboard would be very cool. I just ran in to this myself. The only other suggestion I would make is that both panes of the split window should be able to monitor the same session (kind of like you can have 2 panes editing the same file in kate) but typing in one pane should not cause the other pane to scroll down to the bottom. i think that last suggestion would be really tough... if your two pane are two different shell, running two different vim instance,... would be tough them to follow each others. i guess either vim or emacs can already do that. having multiple pane in konsole would be really nice. and maybe saving view profile just as in konqueror... would be great. just saving pane geometry and PWD. thanks This option would be great. I am still using multi-gnome-terminal because of that (in CVS-HEAD). Keychains are now solved, please add splitting of view. And don't forget keyboard shortcut to change focus, resize View,... (as in vim or emacs) I have not try it, but it may interrest some people here : http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=22482 "QuadKonsole embeds Konsole kparts in a grid layout." quadkonsole is very nice... but will be great if konsole could implement that... somebody know if the konsole programmer will add this feature? I also would like Konsole to implement this feature like Konqueror does. This would be very useful when observing log-files. This way you could watch the logfile with "tail -f logfile" in one window (e.g. upper half) and do commandline inputs in the other one. I just wanted to write a similar bug report. This split view option would enhance greatly the power of konsole. Often I find myself opening two konsole instances and place them next to each other. With this option, fidling around placing konsole windows (especially on laptops) would be a thing of the past. I find myself often in the case of reading a README file in a given directory and wanting to execute a shell program at the same time. With a split view, the same directory could be accessible for multiple purposes and viewed at the same time. As an option, like in konqueror, two split views could be linked with each other and thus changing the location in one view could happend simultaneously in the other view. Thanks for working on Konsole, one of the best programms in KDE! Beat One nice feature I saw in PromptPal for Windows is to have a splitview where the input takes place in the upper terminal and the output appears in the bottom terminal. Implemented in KDE 4. Thanks! Looking forward to it. :) great!, I was wondering when this would be added. |
