Pentium 4 1.8GHz, Gateway, 512M memory (RIMM) Can you try it with a non-KDE player? xmms or similar? I ripped the cd to a .flac file, but xmms was unresponsive. I used

Rhythmbox with Gnome also worked ok...system sounds don't sputter when using Gnome for some reason either. This might really be a problem with pulseaudio. If the pulseaudio deamon is running there's no point in changing the audio device priorities as ALSA hardware/dmix access is blocked by pulse. Since Kaffeine also stutters this seems to be a xine <-> pulse problem. I've been trying xine and pulse and haven't heard anything you describe, so perhaps it needs a different version than I was testing or it's a distri issue. Whatever's the case I can't do anything about it at this point. You might try asking at the Fedora, PulseAudio or Xine projects about this... |
