Description Alias 2005-01-10 17:23:07 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.3)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

The system uses natively utf-8 coded file names. However sometimes you extract an file from an older archive which contains characters in latin1 (outside the ASCII range). The file names are not correctly displayed. An attempt to rename the file using the file properties window of konqueror will be unsuccessful if you don't delete the whole name and retype it all along replacing the uncorrect (latin1 beyond ASCII) characters.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Assuming you've got such a file with a badly displayed name.
1)open the properties window
usually the badly coded (on the new system) will be displayed by two boxes.
2)Delete the two boxes.
First: more characters will be removed...then 3)you may try to insert the corresponding correct new utf-8 char...then the window will not be responsive any more.
If, instead of deleting the two boxes only, you delete the whole string and retype a new name it works correctly.

It happens all the time with such badly displayed file names.

The expected behaviour would be first for the window not to hang and then to allow to rename such files without deleting the whole string.

Moving from "kio/kfile" component to "kfile" product, helps sorting out duplicates.

Is this reproducible with KDE Frameworks 5.45?
