Description Mathias Homann 2004-02-07 18:52:03 UTC
Version: Unbekannt (using KDE 3.2.0, SuSE)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.1 (SuSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-166-default

I think the way kdm made you choose the session type back in KDE 3.1.x was more pratical. now you have to manually open the dropdown to see what kind of session you'll get. IMHO it should have at least a "will start the following session" display.
Comment 1 Oswald Buddenhagen 2004-02-07 20:33:06 UTC
choosing the session type is an exceptional action for "regular" users, no need to bother them in any way. power users know where alt-t is, so no need to have the item directly visible.
as for the feedback (just in case you're a power user with bad memory) ... it's on the todo to have session type logos instead of the generic static pixmap (the clock would move to a completely different place on the desktop), so i'll leave this report open.

I agree with the wistlist. I constantly switch from kde3.2.x and kdecvs Sessions. It would be nice to see what Session is current on the main screen.

I'll agree to anyone who says "this isirrelevant because you use your computer every day, you should be able to remember what kind of session you had last time", but i got several "special" users on my system which are rarely used... for example for DE testing ;)
Comment 4 Thomas Bettler 2005-12-08 17:32:56 UTC
I also vote for this.
Imagine I have a student's terminal and would like to introduce them theirselves into the world of opensource. They need to obviously see the choice between a GNOME and KDE session.
Comment 5 Thomas Bettler 2005-12-08 17:50:38 UTC
It has been removed, but I'd like to have it back. Optionally. see bug 66849

I vote for this too : Under Gentoo Linux I often switch between KDE and IceWM (into the later to test some annoying intel driver bugs which occurr together with wine apps, and those test cases crashes under KDE much more often than under IceWM). Doing this often I "failed" the correct DE b/c I didn't remember the last choice.

KDM is unmaintained and not used in KDE Plasma 5.

SDDM is the login manager used in KDE Plasma 5. If you still have this same issue with SDDM, please file an issue on the SDDM bugtracker (after doing a search for existing issues first!): https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/
