Description rgpublic 2004-02-01 13:26:12 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

It should be possible to drag the icon of an application
from Run Command directly on the desktop.
For example:
- Press Alt+F2
- Enter kwrite, but don't press the "Enter" key
- Drag the kwrite icon on the desktop
- Now you have a shortcut to KWrite on your desktop

This is far simpler and intuitive than using the complicated
"Create Shortcut" dialog - especially considering
that right now Run Command automatically selects the correct
icon, "Create Shortcut" does not. But even if this is
implemented in "Create Shortcut" this should be added
IMHO.

Thanks.

Is this still valid for kde 4?
Comment 4 Ed 2009-08-02 19:41:42 UTC
Yes, it is. It would be really nice if application items in krunner can be dragged to the desktop.

Similarly, for example the output of the unit converter can be dragged into a text editor.

Yes, specially if you do not have a menu (kickoff, raptor, lancelot, etc.) to drag icons from.

I just tested it, you can drag any file or application - even from the recent used list - onto the desktop. It asks you to copy and generates a .desktop file which works just fine.

I can confirm you observation using KDE SC 4.8 beta2, so close it as FIXED.
