Description Nate Graham 2026-08-17 23:23:02 UTC
I'm unsure if this is a PBI issue or a notification issue, so I thought I'd start here with PBI.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Launch a sandboxed Flatpak instance of LibreWolf or Firefox, with the plasma-browser integration's add-on installed.
2. Visit https://github.com/caelestia-dots/shell.
2. Scroll down to the video > right-click > download > select desktop > OK.
3. After it downloads, a system notification from Plasma Browser Integration appears.

OBSERVED RESULT
The notification says it was downloaded to "/run/user/1000/doc/bWu6HL6WsGZiNKgaBXwMGg" (or some similar nonsense). Clicking on the link opens that weird path instead of "/home/nate/desktop".

EXPECTED RESULT
The notification says it was downloaded to "/home/nate/Desktop" and clicking on the link takes me there.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The browser's own download popups display the location correctly as "/home/nate/Desktop", and their "show in folder" actions take me there.

This issue only affects LibreWolf and Firefox; Chromium is unaffected.

The extension just forwards what the browser API tells it. The Firefox download API is in general quite buggy, which is also why it doesn’t offer to pause a download.

Check the following for what the browser tells us:
1.) go to about:debugging
2.) On the sidebar choose "This Firefox"
3.) Under Extensions find "Plasma Integration" and click "Inspect"
4.) Start your download (best to use one that takes a while to complete)
5.) In the resulting developer console paste: chrome.downloads.search({state: "in_progress"}, console.log)

This gives you an array with a single download, expand it, look at what the contents of the "filename" property. If this is your /run... then that’s what the browser tells us.

The documents portal writes an "user.document-portal.host-path" extended file attribute to the file which we might be able to use to resolve this but I am not sure whether we get this here. Might be worth checking with fattr or xattr
