Partially transparent issue

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go fullscreen on a window that's playing audio.
2. Exit fullscreen and look at the audio button on the app's icon.

OBSERVED RESULT
It's not there, and it fades in after a bit.

EXPECTED RESULT
The audio button should always be there if there's audio, including fullscreen apps' audio.

I have Animations deactivated in these attachments, so the fade effect shouldn't be there even if its timing issue gets fixed.

I've figured out one way to reproduce this.

Which application did you fullscreen, and how did you fullscreen it?

Haruna, by double-clicking the window. (see attachment)

Yes, that's how I managed to reproduce it as well.

If you go full screen with the menu entry, it does not happen.

Double-clicking Haruna actually causes it to not only go full-screen, but also pause it, then play again. (I presume this is so that clicking to pause works instantly, rather than having to wait to see if there is a second click coming). The task manager has a delay for apps that are playing sound, so that very short streams don't cause it to flash. But we turn it off instantly when the sound ends. So double-clicking the video first pauses it (which causes the icon to hide) and with the second click simultaneaously (un)fullscreens it and unpauses it, which starts a ~2 second delay of nothing happening, until the icon comes back and we're sure it's playing long-term again.

Should I file another bug about the fade effects appearing with animations deactivated?

Let's wait and see if it still happens once this is fixed - the precise way this is implemented might have something to do with it.

applets/taskmanager: briefly delay audio indicator fade out

We delay showing the audio indicator by 2000 ms, so that it won't flash
in and out if the app only plays a very short stream and goes silent
again. We don't do this for stopping playing streams though. Generally
reasonably as apps rarely stop their stream only for short periods, and
having it update immediately is nice. But "rarely" is not never, and
there is one particular case that's common to trigger: video players
usually pause on click, and go fullscreen on double-click. This is
registered as stopping the stream, then reopening the old one, so causes
fade out - delay - fade in. It can even abort in the middle of fading
out, leaving a partially faded audio indicator in the panel for
2 seconds if you un-fullscreen a playing video until it's fully opaque
again. This looks a little broken.

Instead, we add a small delay on hiding the icon as well. We can just
take the double click delay (defaulting to 400 ms), as this exactly
covers the situation where this will most commonly occur, and should
also handle other brief interruptions of the stream pretty well.
