SUMMARY Highlighting text from beginning of line by keyboard rearranges text and breaks undo history STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Create a file names "test.txt". 2. Copy the following text into it and save: Test text 1 # Test text 2 # Test-text 3 3. Open text.txt in either Kate or kwrite. 4. Place cursor at the beginning of any of those three lines. 5. Attempt to highlight by holding shift and the right arrow key. OBSERVED RESULT Results vary depending on the text in the line being highlighted. For the first line, highlighting begins after the 4th character, instead of at the cursor. For the second line, highlighting being after the 6th character and the first two characters are deleted. Pressing ctrl+Z causes the word "Test" to be deleted as well. For the third line, highlighting begins after the 11th character and the first two are deleted. Pressing ctrl+Z causes the word "Test-text" to be deleted as well. EXPECTED RESULT The line should be highlighted from the beginning, without altering the text or undo history. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Fedora 43 (fresh install, ran dnf update and not much else) KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.3 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.24.0 Qt Version: 6.10.2 Kernel Version: 6.19.9-200.fc43.x86_64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This happens when opening Kate for the first time on a fresh Fedora 43 install. I haven't made any settings changes to Kate (or kwrite).
I did some additional testing and this bug reproduces on Fedora 42, 43, and the 44. beta. In the case of 42 and 43, it is not present on a fresh install (which includes an older version of Plasma), but appears after running dnf update and updating to Plasma 6.6. In the case of 44, the initial install includes 6.6 and the bug is already present.
