Thank you for everything what's already done during development of Digikam. I think following can improve UI/UX of sidebars and make them less overwhelming and confusing: 1. Remove Tools tab from Right sidebar completely. It's the only tab which doesn't provide any additional functionality, it's a mere duplicate of what's already available in Main menu, without it being more accessible or something. 2. Merge Properties and Metadata tabs in Right sidebar. How are they different? Properties can be a first tab amongst those which are already in Metadata. 3. Detach "Auto-tag scan" from Tags tab in Left sidebar into separate window. This function isn't intended to be used very often, it doesn't need quick access in sidebar. It can live as a tool. 4. Detach "Image Quality Scan" from Labels tab in Left sidebar into separate window. Does it really have anything to do with labels? Again, probably this tool doesn't need quick access. 5. Maybe even merge Labels and Tags tabs? Are they really that different? Tags and labels already live under same roof in Right sidebar Filters and Captions tabs.
1- no: it's a users wish reported in the past in Bugzilla. 2- no: Properties is a synthesis of info stored in the digiKam database. Metadata is raw view. 3- no: hosting in the tab have be done to limit dialogs usage in the goal to simplify HMI. Also it's was a wish reported in Bugzilla. 4- same as 3. 5- 2 tools used differently in the users workflow. Tags can be a huge hierarchy so it need a dedicated place to be hosted.
