SUMMARY
Double-clicking the first word of a line and then dragging the cursor to the right results in some of the text in the line being deleted. This happens in both Kate and Kwrite.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a blank document in Kate or Kwrite.
2. Type the following text into the document: `testing the bug`
3. Double-click on the word `testing` to select it, then continue dragging the cursor to the right to select the rest of the line.

OBSERVED RESULT
The four characters to the right of `testing` are deleted (` the`). The line now reads `testing bug`.

EXPECTED RESULT
No characters should be deleted when performing a text select operation.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora Linux 43
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.23.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I was able to reproduce this on two out of my three Fedora 43 installs:
* Laptop: reproducible
* Desktop: bug does not occur
* VM on my desktop (virt-manager): reproducible

All three systems are up to date with the exact same OS, so perhaps there is a settings difference between these systems that may account for the bug occurring on some but not all installations.

Note: it is important not to type the backticks (`) in my text examples above (I forgot that KDE bugzilla doesn't support markdown). If you type the backticks, the bug will not happen, because the double-click selection must include the first character on the line for the bug to occur.

Not reproducible for me, on Debian Trixie.

It is not the first "strange" bug coming from Fedora 43, is it possible to update the packages ? I am saying this because I installed Fedora, and I had to update, because KDE was unusable.

Anyways, I selected text, then, with the mouse, if you click and hold and move (dragging) anywhere, then you are moving the selected text, and that's what happens to me.

All packages are fully updated in all three installs.

You need to double-click the first word, but don't release the second click while you then drag to select the remaining text. It sounds like you're double-clicking and then releasing the mouse button before clicking again to drag the selected word.

Thanks for the clarification, indeed I was doing ti wrong.

I have to update to Qt6.10, I am on Debian testing with Qt 6.9, and cannot reproduce.

So, it seems to be a regression, or change of behavior, caused by Qt6.10.

And that explains why some bugs are coming from Fedora, or why have I felt Fedora to be a bit unstable as compared to Debian. Debian testing is not using Qt6.10 yet, but Fedora is already there, and it seems to have regressions.

Thanks for the report - there's an existing bug report for this issue that I'm merging this into so research can be consolidated.
