EXPECTED RESULT The clip zone is inserted into the timeline at the current marker. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS - Ubuntu 19.10 - Kdenlive 19.08.2 - KDE Frameworks 5.62.0 - Qt 5.12.4 (built against 5.12.4) - MLT version 6.16.0 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Okay, I found out how to make it work. I realised that there's a notification in the bottom left corner of the screen (very subtle), which says; "select the track first". Maybe it would be better to make that notification a bit more obvious/contrasting.
I updated the documentation: Keyboard command "v" and "b": Since version 19.08 "3 point editing with keyboard shortcuts" is implemented. Source and target has to be activated that the clip gets inserted into the timeline. More info here: https://kdenlive.org/en/2019/08/kdenlive-19-08-released/. The advantage is that you can edit with the keyboard only. Alternatively: After you set the zone you can drag and drop the clip from the clip monitor into the timeline.
Thanks for your report! It seems we can close this as you found the solution and the doc is updated. Btw version 19.08.2 is very old (current is 20.12.3, 21.04 is coming in april). I highly recommend you to update. There have been many fixes and new features! https://kdenlive.org/en/download/
