New tabs are inserted to the left in kate. The default behaviour on all other KDE programs (and pretty much every piece of software ever) is to insert new tabs to the right.
I have been looking into this the last few days. Instead of just showing tabs in order, Kate shows the last X edited documents. This means that, when opening a document the least recently document is hidden and this document may be in any tab index. Adding tabs to the right looks OK until we run out of tabs. What should be the behavior in this case? Adding to the left or to the right?
If we move the overflow menu on the left, then I don't see why we couldn't add tabs to the right forever and have the left-most ones fall off into the overflow menu.

Like I said, I think opening tabs to the right makes good sense, as long as we move the overflow menu thingy over to the left side, since that will become the side that the older tabs are "dropping off" from.

I suggest to not move the tabs from the right automatically on any event. Just place them here and all. Now Kate support manual tabs ordering, so when/if we need to change this order we'll do it manually. Or at least give us the ability to switch order behavior. I'm talking about some flag in the settings.
