Hi there I upgraded my Kubuntu 15.04 to the Kubuntu Team Backport PPA 5.3.1 and now I am unable to save files with Kate. I can press the save button -> nothing happens I can press the close button, I get a warning that document is altered and asked if I want to save, I click save -> nothing happens pressing ^s -> nothing happens See youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0keliXVQNAg&feature=em-upload_owner Reproducible: Always
For me, this only happens if I open a file on the desktop. The file saves successfully only once, after that, it silently fails. Closing Kate and choosing to save the modified file results in the error "Data you requested to be saved could not be written. Please choose how you want to proceed." Saving files opened via Dolphin, or opened from within Kate do not exhibit the same fault. I also notice that there is an "Examining: Finished" notification that only appears when opening files from the desktop. Could indicate that it's not correctly detecting the file as local? Also just upgraded to Kubuntu 15.04 PPA 5.3.1 although can't confirm this wasn't already a bug.
Well, coming back to what Dan Mac said: This only happens if I click on a text file on the desktop. Then I can't save it. When I open a file from Kate or from Dolphin, it works fine.
I have the same problem using kwrite4 with plasma5 and open a file from desktop (kwrite shows path desktop:/...), it cannot be saved.
Kate can't save files opened from desktop here on Manjaro. Plasma 5.3.2 - Qt 5.5
That don't happen on Kubuntu 15.10 Alpha 2.
Seems to be OK (fixed ?) in Kubuntu 15.10 with latest updates.
Hm, that sounds like an issue in the underlying stack: some KDE Framework, or Qt, or a messed up installation. If it works for you now, let's close this issue for now. If you encounter this again please let us know! Thanks.
