Description bugs5.kde.org 2015-04-24 11:47:48 UTC
Hi there

I have a vanilla install of Kubuntu 15.04 with the Kubuntu Team 5.3 Beta repository.

On my notebook I have attached two external monitors and the notebook monitor is turned off.

On both I chose in the desktop settings to use Folder View instead of Desktop.

On the secondary monitor (the one without the kde taskbar) the change is permanent - meaning it survives reboot.

However on the primary monitor, when I reboot, it resets back to default Desktop mode instead of Folder View.

I've recorded it with my cell phone.

Other issues: During boot up that diskfilter message still appears because of the raid; also I can't use the bt keyboard to enter the luks/dm-crypt password anymore.

Reproducible: Always

Hmmmm, any chance to get that fixed? It's really annoying
Comment 3 Alex Tharp 2015-06-26 02:50:32 UTC
I can confirm this happens to me as well. I'm running Plasma 5.3 on Arch Linux.

This is consistently reproducable on both my laptop and PC. If you set the desktop to 'folder view', this does not persist upon reboot. It also seems to reset the background, remove any widgets (along with their settings - notes are lost), etc.

I'd like to assist in fixing this, if at all possible - I'm new to KDE dev, but I'll hunt around and see how it's supposed to store this configuration, and how it might be tripping up. If anyone experienced could lend a hand, that'd be dandy swell!

Additionally, if there is a log the KDE devs would like to see, I'm more than willing to dredge that up and parade it around here. Thanks!

Oh durn - I suppose I can't edit my comment. I'd like to add:

Could it be related? If the system crashes, occasionally I'll lose all my desktop settings (widgets, background, etc).
Comment 5 bugs5.kde.org 2015-06-30 06:02:24 UTC
Ok, I upgraded to 15.10 and I'm still experiencing the same issue.
Comment 6 Alex Tharp 2015-08-14 04:35:31 UTC
Same - issue is still ongoing. How can we get this on someone's radar?
Comment 7 David Edmundson 2015-08-17 11:36:23 UTC
hey, sorry about the delay it sort of fell through the gaps

Alex are you the same person as bugs5.kde.org@sjau.ch ?

Can you include your .config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc

and the output of "kscreen-console bug"

also Kubuntu 15.10 really means nothing to us, what Plasma version is that? you can find out in kinfocenter -> about version
Comment 8 Raman Gupta 2015-12-18 15:38:43 UTC
I have a similar/same problem on Fedora 23 (Plasma version 5.5.0). I have three monitors, left (DisplayPort-0), center (DisplayPort-1), and right (DVI-0). The center monitor is the primary monitor. My folder view settings are to show files linked to the current activity on the left and right monitors, and to show the Desktop folder on the center monitor. In addition, my taskbar and related plasmoids are on my center monitor.

Upon a reboot (and this has now happened a couple of times), KDE changes the plasma settings so that left and center monitor "switch" i.e. the left monitor now has the task bar and Desktop view, and the center monitor is "files linked to the current activity".

The underlying physical Display Settings remain the same as before -- the monitor identifiers, the relative positions, and the primary monitor are all exactly as before.

The output of "kscreen-console bug" as well as ".config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc" will be attached (this is after KDE messed up the config).

The working plasma confiiguration

This plasma configuration is my "good" version. It keeps getting destroyed by KDE and I have to copy this manually back into .config/ to reset it.

This hasn't happened to me in a long time. I wasn't the OP but I'd feel confident in saying this is fixed.
