Description msadityan 2015-01-24 08:49:36 UTC
The central pane in Amarok, where visualizations are available for every song played, is stuck on top of all windows. If I right click on the title bar, the right click menu itself disappears behind the central pane. Also the central pane cannot be moved when it is stuck. If I drag the whole Amarok window from the title bar, only then the central pane moves.

Further more this problem happens only when I use Amarok installed on KDE 4.14.2 on Ubuntu Trusty Tahr, running as a guest OS on Virtual Box 4.3.20 r96996 with host OS as OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).

On a clean install of Kubuntu, this problem doesn't occur.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Virtual Box 4.3.20 on OSX 10.10 and install Ubuntu Trusty Tahr as Guest OS.
2. Install KDE 4.14.2 and run Amarok 2.8.
3. Try running other applications, and see if the central pane of Amarok gets stuck.

Actual Results:
The Amarok central pane, which has the visualizations when a song is played is stuck on top of all other applications that are running. The central pane gets dittached from the whole Amarok window. The only way to get rid of the central pane is to close Amarok. Please note that the option of keeping above all windows is unchecked in Amarok.

Expected Results:
The central pane shouldn't be stuck.

I am using a Macbook Pro 15 inch mid 2012 model. 2.3 GHz core i7 with 8 GB RAM running OSX 10.10.1 Yosemite.

Just to make sure something: is the display locked (View menu -> Lock Display)? That should be default, if it is not then something went wrong with your installation.

Hi,

Regarding https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343232,

the display is locked. I tried unlocking it, still the central pane is
stuck. So essentially I get the same error whether display is locked or
unlocked.

Thanks!

Could somebody with a VM isntallation of Kubuntu test this?
Comment 4 msadityan 2015-01-27 11:07:17 UTC
I tried this again. I previously had ubuntu + KDE installed on virtualbox on my mac. Now I installed pure Kubuntu on virtualbox and tried running amarok. The central pane is no longer stuck.

I also tried reinstalling Ubuntu Trusty Tahr with KDE on top of it. Now the central pane in amarok is stuck as before.

So this only happens on virtualbox, but not with a regular installation? I can't reproduce with a local Kubuntu installation, changing the title
