Description YAFU 2014-12-13 23:13:50 UTC
There are these filters for GIMP:
https://registry.gimp.org/node/28112
http://www.logarithmic.net/pfh/resynthesizer
https://www.google.com/search?q="resynthesizer"+"seamless+textures"

Both filters can be used to generate seamless textures from an image. "Make Seamless Advanced" on a smaller scale, mainly to modify an image and then use it in mosaics/tiles. Resynthesizer on a larger scale since it is a smart filter and can generate complex seamless patterns from an image.

These things are very useful for example, to texture in Blender 3D.
Thank you!

I wonder -- aren't these filters already in G'Mic?

Nope, they have removing objects, which does use similar technology, but not resynthesizer.

Hello.
G'MIC has very good filters, but they are not the same as these that I mention here.
G'MIC has "Make Seamless" which works well to create a seamless tile, but the filter does not have many options as "Make Seamless Advanced".
G'MIC has "Resynthetize texture", which is useful mainly to create abstract patterns from an image. It does not respect large shapes and contours, such as is possible do with Resynthetizer for GIMP (Filters > Map > Resynthetize). For example, you can not do the example of squash (Resynthetizer home) with G'MIC. With Resynthetizer for GIMP you can do really complex textures or patterns from an image, as you can see in some examples in the search results on google that before I gave here.

Well, Resynthetizer for GIMP is also useful for smart filling areas, but I think that is not for this wishlist :) (G'MIC has "Inpaint[patch based]" for this)
