Description Mark 2013-10-04 20:58:39 UTC
Since I upgraded to the Kubuntu beta, when my display auto dims due to inactivity, the pop-up brightness meter displays as if i was dimming it manually with the keypress. It should only do this if I'm actually pressing the key.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-11.17-generic 3.11.3
Uname: Linux 3.11.0-11-generic x86_64
ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu1
Architecture: amd64
Date: Fri Oct 4 00:40:54 2013
InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-05-03 (153 days ago)
InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Release amd64 (20130424)

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
When the screen auto dims due to inactivity the brightness meter appears

Expected Results:
It should not appear.

Laptop in question is a Thinkpad X1 Carbon

Also seeing this problem on a Samsung R720 with ATI HD4000 series graphics
Comment 3 Richard Neill 2013-10-27 01:17:40 UTC
I see this too, on a Thinkpad X60 (Kubuntu Saucy, KDE 4.11.2
It happens all the time:
  - when the screensaver dims due to inactivity
  - when I wake the machine from screen-blank.

(I think I've also seen this on my desktop machine, which flashes the notification very fast, as if it *would* dim the screen, but actually, the screen brightness isn't changing).

Please fix this: it may be a trivial bug, but it's really quite distracting, especially on resume.

Thanks very much

Also, when the brightness adjustment keys are used on my X1 Carbon, the meter does not appear.

I confirm this inconvenient and unavoidable behaviour. I love KDE- and KDE application- developers for only adding nice-to-have features, if they can be suppressed by the user. However, this brightness-OSD from hell is not an example to follow :-)
Comment 7 Martin Tamashiro 2014-03-29 20:57:24 UTC
I confirm this also in Linux Mint 16 KDE 64 bit Edition. (KDE 4.11.2). Asus UL80VT.

This is particularly problematic if one is giving a LibreOffice presentation in front of a large audience.
Comment 10 Christoph Feck 2014-06-25 18:15:28 UTC
If LibreOffice doesn't request screen saver inhibition during a presentation, please report it there.

Comment 12 Kai Uwe Broulik 2014-12-27 12:51:53 UTC
This has been fixed for Plasma 5 where the OSD will only ever show up if the user manually touched the brightness, never if the system automatically does it.
Comment 13 Tim Holy 2015-01-05 20:34:28 UTC
Very nice, thanks so much!
