(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kio Version: unknown (using KDE 2.2.0 beta1) Severity: wishlist Installed from: Linux-Mandrake 8.0 (Traktopel) - Unsupported Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Linux-Mandrake 8.0 2.96-0.48mdk) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.3-20mdksmp OS/Compiler notes: It would be nice if in the same way as smb shares can be browsed Apple shared folders could be browsed as well. Not all office networks are Windows networks !! (Submitted via bugs.kde.org) (Called from KBugReport dialog)
A List of all available Slaves: http://apps.kde.com/nf/2/browse/Desktop/Services/KIOSlaves A kio_slve for macs: http://apps.kde.com/nf/2/info/id/1459
KIO_Mac is just a wrapper for HFS Tools. It only allows browsing of local HFS partitions. I'm looking for a slave that would show all Macs on a network with Appleshare enabled and then allow browsing of the shared folders on those machines. I've looked at Netatalk but that is all todo with making a Linux box provide appleshared folders to other Mac machines, not the other way around. I suppose I'm looking for something that will emulate the Mac Chooser !

It would be particularily good for someone who is looking for a nice well-contained KDE project to work on.
A bit of further researh. AFPFS is a library that allows Mac shared folders to be browsed from a Linux box. Kind of the reverse of Netatalk ! Unfortunatly this hasn't been maintained since early 2.2 kernals. I kind find another equivalent library.
Still a good idea !
Apple uses Samba today, and AFP is dead.
