Package: kdm Version: 4:4.8.3-0ubuntu0.2 Package: kdm-gdmcompat Version: 0.13-2 Multiple simultaneous login switching using mixed different desktop environments doesn't work. Despite using the fix discussed here: http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=96580&p=22364 (to be more exact: the updated fix from here: http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=102164) KDM won't switch to the correct VT if multiple users are logged in and one of them logs in again. When loggign in again, a Gnome-user won't get his "old" session back, instead a new session is started. Using "Switch User" under Gnome doesn't work either. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Log into KDE with one user (1), lock screen, click "switch user", click "start new session" 2. Log into Gnome with another user (2) 3. Try to switch user 4. Switch to the VT KDE is on, select "switch user", try to log in as user (1) again. 5. Switch to the VT KDE is on, select "switch user", try to log in as user (2) again. Actual Results: 3: Session is locked, screen goes black 4: When logging in again (session already running), an already running KDE-session is unlocked, VT is not switched. 5: When using Gnome, a new session will be started Expected Results: 3: Session is locked,VT is switched to the next free VT, KDM is started 4/5: KDM switches to the VT containing the already running session and unlocks it. Linux
I'm sorry, but the description given above is actually wrong: 3: KDM is actually started in a new VT, the VT is switched correctly. I'll have to re-check the other stuff tomorrow. Again: Sorry, something went wrong with /etc/kde4/kdm/Xstartup on this machine.
KDM is unmaintained and not used in KDE Plasma 5. SDDM is the login manager used in KDE Plasma 5. If you still have this same issue with SDDM, please file an issue on the SDDM bugtracker (after doing a search for existing issues first!): https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/
