Version: 1.7 (using KDE 4.7.1) OS: Linux Strigi is very weak link in semantic desktop in KDE. Poor quality analyzers, performance problems, leaving me no choice but to disable it. Reproducible: Didn't try Expected Results: At the same time, I would love to have the ability to search through coments/tags/ratings, regardless if strigi is active or not.
I understand your problem, but I'm sorry to say that this is outside the scope of Dolphin: Dolphin will not introduce a custom metadata-analyzer to bypass the issues of Strigi. This must be solved globally for the KDE software compilation...
Thank you for quick response. I think I've been misunderstood. I do not want any custom metadata-analyzers, which will replace Strigi's. Just ability to search for file coments/tags/ratings - nothing more (this shouldn't require strigi). I think, it was possible before KDE SC 4.6 (faceted search) was introduced ?. Best regards.
Ah, I see... Comments, tags and ratings are maintained by Nepomuk and it is still possible to search for these kind of things but Nepomuk must be enabled (Strigi can stay disabled). Please use the Search Panel (F12) for this. In 4.6 it was not possible to search for this without enabled Nepomuk.
The problem is that, I can't use search panel, or even nepomuk's queries don't work without active strigi. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82aOgypYOJA
Thanks for the youtube video. I need to check with the Nepomuk developers whether Strigi is really required, my assumption was that for comments, ratings etc. this works (I'm currently on vacation and could not try it myself in Dolphin - my feedback above is based on my memory which as you can see is sometimes not very reliable ;-)). Anyhow I've set this bug now to NEW.
Thank you. Have a great vacation!

Nepomuk and Strigi are both long gone in Dolphin.
