Error may occure, all the time, if a file should be pushed to trashbin, instead of delte the file completly. But only on external Media like FTP - maybeeven on USB. Cannot duplicate. I created a folder in an ftp site and deleted it and got no error message. Do you have lots of items in the directory ? Perhaps larger than what the trash is able to hold ?
No, this also happens if the files are very small and the Trashbin is empty.

I have the same problem when using KDE SC 4.8 RC1. The 'Delete' action in context menu always fails, even for empty folders and files. It complains "Creating folders is not supported with protocol trash" for folders and "Access denied to trash:/.... " for files. However, the problem occurs ONLY when using dolphin. I have no problem when using konqueror and gwenview to access that ftp folder.
Well, I think this is more like a bug of dolphin, because I just find how to and how not to reproduce it in dolphin. One question to others who also have this problem : is the "Show Delete command" option disabled in dolphin ? If yes, enable it, and try the "Delete" action in the context menu again. It should work this time. Also see bug 290307.
