Install Additional Software dialog

Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.4)
OS: Linux

".ico" files are associated to GIMP. However, Dolphin keeps saying there is no application that opens this file type and keeps asking to install additional software (which it can't find anyways). After "cancel" the file opens in GIMP as expected. When trying same thing in Konqueror there is no message and the file opens ok.
Don't want to click "Do not ask again" as I might need this feature for other file types.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Left click on any *.ico file, after associating any viewer.

Actual Results:
Install Additional Software dialog pop-up.

Expected Results:
Open ico file in viewer.

OS: Linux 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop x86_64
System: openSUSE 11.3 (x86_64)
KDE: 4.4.4 (KDE 4.4.4) "release 3"

Processor (CPU): Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9650 @ 3.00GHz
  Speed: 4,049.43 MHz
  Cores: 4

Total memory (RAM): 3.9 GiB
Free memory: 31.8 MiB (+ 3.2 GiB Caches)
  Free swap: 5.0 GiB

Thanks for the report, but Dolphin and Konqueror use the same approach to run the applications for the files. Can you still reproduce the issue in Dolphin? My current guess is that it works now in Dolphin too - is this guess correct?

Nope!
Konqueror opens the file OK; Dolphin still asks to install an application and only when answering No it goes ahead to open the file.
Also, I respectfully disagree with your statement below, Dolphin and Konqueror seem NOT to use the same approach to run the applications for the files.
For example, I created a new Text File and added .ABC as extension. Konqueror recognizes it as text and opens it right away. Dolphin however, is asking to install a specialized abc musical notation application or open as regular text (see attached png).
To me, that means there is an extra check prior to using to same approach as Konqueror to run applications for the files. I think the "extra verification step" is where the problem happens.

Regards

@David: Do you probably a clue here what is going on? Dolphin just uses KRun to start the corresponding application...

s/clue/have a clue...

"Install Additional Software" is not a KDE feature. This looks like a distribution-specific patch to me...

Is this still a problem? If it's actually a distro problem then it has either been fixed or we should notify the respective maintainer.

No response -> closing (probably fixed by distro maintainers). Please reopen the bug report if you still experience this behavior with newer versions of Dolphin.
