Version: unknown (using 4.4.3 (KDE 4.4.3), Debian packages) Compiler: cc OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.32.12-proserpina In kde 4.3 there was a - sign in the widget list to remove some widget. Now it's gone. I've added a bouncing ball and set it to bounce, and then to remove it i had to manually edit the configuration file, and use xkill to kill plasma so it would reload. I would say this is not my ideal of usability.
the - sign is not going to return; all widgets get an applet handle and most are also right-clickable.
Do you also have in mind some jedi tecnique to slow down the time so i can delete a moving plasmoid?
it eventually stops; there was recent work to fix a few edge conditions on that as well. but as i said, the - sign is not coming back. this is not a negotiation where we take turns opening and closing things, but a task list where the people doing the work sort things between "done", "will" and "won't".
Am i missing something or you didn't suggest a way to remove the thing? (it doesn't stop after you set it to bounce automatically).
Salvo, when you enable auto-bounce, lock widgets and a ball will stop bouncing, but keep rotating. Then you can right click on it and disable auto-bounce. Afterwards unlock widgets again and it will eventually stop moving so you can click "X" to remove it.
Strange that it didn't come in my mind, it was so obvious! Well i also had a solution, but my point is that... those are not good solutions.
"all widgets get an applet handle and most are also right-clickable." I've seen times when an applet is running but doesn't show anything on the screen anywhere, even after a reboot. [like it messed up, crashed, or something] If you don't want a minus sign here, you can make it a right click on icon in widget list option -> close all [this widget name]..., or have a middle click do this. You could even add a prompt for delete conformation. Had to do something like `konsole`, `kquitapp plasma-desktop`, `kate ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc &` then edit the file, save and finally run `plasma-desktop` from the konsole window, then run `plasma-desktop` using the run dialog. [caution: order matters on this]
Yes, I just voted for a bug listed as a 'WONTFIX' bug.
I foolishly got the bouncing ball running chased after it right clicking at it till I caught it. Unfortunately it was unkillable even then turning it off clicking on x etc had no effect. I tried ps -ax etc to kill it unsuccessfully. In the end I removed it by right clicking on it again finding a path to the bouncing ball graphic, moving the files and finally logging out and back in again. I shall be a lot more cautious with widgets in future,
