Description John 2010-03-14 13:33:57 UTC
Version: 3.5 (using 4.3.5 (KDE 4.3.5), compiled sources)
Compiler: i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.31.11-130

After installation of Pardus 2009.1 the sound volume is silent even if you put the KMix options at maximum.
To get any sound you must include "Master Front":

http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/attachment.cgi?id=5052

On the previous Pardus 2009 the sound was normal without the extra options.

But when you have done the settings and get sound again the speaker symbol shows "Volume 0 %:

http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/attachment.cgi?id=5056

It not help to adjust anything it still shows 0 % in all options even if the volume is put on max.

It is not an KMix issue if you have different controls after you did a operating system/Sound driver update. Obviously your sound driver changed to include "Master Front". I don't see where the problem is.

About your 0% issue: The KMix tray icon shows your selected Master Control. If the current selction is not appropriate, you can change it either via the KMix Window (Menubar -> Settings -> Select Master Channel) or on the context menu of the KMix tray icon.

Please report back. I will close this bug report in near time.

This is a very old report and the problem are why KDE 4 always seems to choose the wrong default settings? If thats a 0% problem I not agree, I had no issues with the next Pardus 2009.2 or 2011 version all works correct there.

But now I have sound problem in the new Pardus 2011.1. (and in the latest PCLinuxOS version to)

Weak sound if I compare with Ubuntu 11.04 and I can not find a setting to choose "Master control" there since the KMix settings seems totaly different with the previous KDE versions.

I did a report of that in Pardus bugzilla:
http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/show_bug.cgi?id=18710

I dont know if it's a Pardus problem or a KDE related problem. But since the sound always seems to work normal if I run in every Ubuntu versions in the same PC it must be a problem with the KDE version that Pardus 2011.1 use.

I run only Ubuntu at the moment because it just working fine with the sound "out of the box".

Why is it the wrong default setting. Am I supposed to do a highly magical guess about your speaker setup? Why should "Master Front" be any better than "Master" or "PCM" or "Front" or "DAC" or "Headphone" or "Master Mono"?

The screenshot on http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/show_bug.cgi?id=18710 looks like Pardus is using Pulseaudio. KMix then also uses Pulseaudio and show Pulseaudio controls. By the way, you can check this via KMix main menu => Help => Hardware information.

If Pardus 2011 have a normal sound and the next Pardus 2011.1 (Also the latest PCLinuxOS KDE version) got a weak sound even if put at 100 % on the speaker symbol on the bottom of the screen. I suppose the sound default setting after a clean installation is wrong. Why should it be so if not?

About the "Master Front" it worked when I choosed that one in Pardus 2009.1, all sound was fine then. I tryed many options.

When I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 and the previous versions in same PC I recive equal sound all the time, and It's Linux to.

But I suppose you can close this, I am not running Pardus 2009.1 or 2011.1 at the moment so it's difficult to check things out with the settings for me now.

I probably will try the next Pardus 2011.2

Thanks anyway.

If Pardus went to Pulseaudio, they will probably stick to it - mixing different types (e.g. Native-ALSA puls Pulseaudio) is always calling for trouble. Thisis whey it is so important that KMix follows the decision of the distribution. Good luck with Pardus 2011.2. :-)
